FA01339 - Music History/Appreciation 05116 (S1)

Course Description

Appreciation is defined as the ability to understand the worth, quality or importance of something. This course explores the classical composers, their works and the historical events in music from 600 AD to present. Music is the most powerful communication device ever invented and the most versatile of all international languages. The Classical composers explored in this course were the "music celebrities" / "rock stars" of their time. In this course, students will recognize composers by their musical era and compositions, identify the characteristics of the classics from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, Classical, Nationalist and Contemporary musical eras, and correlate events in history with the evolution of the classics.

Course start date is June 1 - ending July 31
